Children's Liturgy
Home
Very practically, children no longer "tune out" during Sunday liturgy or become bored because of its length. Children's Liturgy of
the Word provides a needed change of pace to suite children's shorter attention spans.
Parishes have found that the children
look forward to coming to Mass and to sharing their take-home materials with their families during the week. Families have begun to
see that participation in the Children's Liturgy is the best way of initiating children into the Catholic community and continuing
to form them in their faith.
Liturgy of the Word with children is held at the 10:00 am Mass on Sundays. All children
from Kindergarten to Grade Six are encouraged to participate. Liturgy of the Word includes the Sunday readings from the
Children's Lectionary, a reflection that includes the children's understanding of the readings, a Profession of Faith and General
Intercessions. The children experience Liturgy of the Word at their level of understanding. The children will not have to leave the
Church; they will meet in the priest's Vesting Sacristy.
